Accepted Recyclable Materials

Rutherford County Recycling Centers (formerly known as Convenience Centers) accept the following materials:

ALUMINUM
Accepted:
        Beverage Containers
        Clean aluminum foil
        (All containers should be empty and have no food residue.)

Not Accepted:
        Food-contaminated aluminum foil

BROKEN-DOWN CARDBOARD
Accepted:
        Clean and dry

Not Accepted:
        Wax-coated boxes
        Coffee Cups
        Food-containers

CLEAR GLASS
Accepted:
        Clear beverage containers
        Food jars
        Wine and liquor bottles
        (All containers should be empty and have no food residue.)

Not Accepted:
        Pyrex containers and ovenware
        Lightbulbs
        Ceramic cups, plates, and bowls
        Drinking glasses
        Mirrors
        Window glass

COLORED GLASS
Accepted:
        Colored beverage containers
        Food jars
        Wine and liquor bottles
        (All containers should be empty and have no food residue.)

Not Accepted:
        Pyrex containers and ovenware
        Lightbulbs
        Ceramic cups, plates, and bowls
        Drinking glasses
        Mirrors
        Window glass

METAL
Accepted:
        Tin cans
        Lids
        Copper and stainless steel
        Aluminum (no cans)

Not Accepted:
        Garbage
        Non-metal materials

MIXED PAPER
Accepted:
        Newspapers and magazines
        Brown paper bags
        Pinter paper (any color)
        Junk mail
        Wrapping paper

Not Accepted:
        Plastic-coated paper
        Food wrappers
        Candy wrappers
        Wax-coated cups
        Tissue paper
        Paper towels
        Wax paper
        Any paper that has the potential to be contaminated with bodily fluids

PLASTIC
Accepted:
        Dry cleaning bags
        Food and beverage containers
        Shampoo bottles
        Medicine bottles
        Detergent bottles
        Window cleaner bottles
        (All containers should be empty and have no food residue.)

Not Accepted:
        Plastic bags
        Food wrappers
        Candy wrappers
        Styrofoam
        Motor oil bottles
        Antifreeze bottles
        Pesticides and herbicides bottles

NOTE: Please DO NOT leave your recyclables in a plastic bag or tied together. Any material besides the recyclable commodity is considered contamination.
